Taryn is 7!

After a long day at camp (which we took cupcakes for a snack) Taryn came home to her choice of dinner and an ice cream cake.

I go to make lunch

and come back into the living room to find Brennan and Karis both passed out cold in each of the recliners. They've been kept busy the last couple of days and I think they needed a little bit of downtime this morning.

Young Athletes

Yesterday morning Karis and Brennan participated in the Special Olympics Young Athletes program. They've been 'training' for about 8 weeks. They've worked on catching, throwing, balance, kicking, striking, jumping and running. They had a fun time and both got award and ribbons.

34 weeks 4 days.....

Who would have thought

that spelling a name would be so hard????

I just want a pepsi!

Not a diet pepsi, but a fully carb loaded 12oz can of pepsi! With 41 grams of carbs in one 12oz can it's certainly not happening anytime soon (I'm only allowed 60 grams of carbs for lunch and dinner), but what I wouldn't give for one right about now.

42 days

Not that we have a countdown going or anything....

I had my 34 week visit with the OB today. Mommy and baby are doing well. Blood pressure is fine, baby sounds great on the doppler...now if she would just move away from my right side for just a little while we'd be doing a bit better.

I start one week visits now. That definitely means that the end is near!

pregnant

I've got to admit

that I personally really love Jadyn's DS. I just had to get the new Super Mario Bros. just for me...I figure I can share with Kolin when the mood strikes him. =) Once the kids are in bed I break out the DS and play MY game. It takes me back to being 9-10 and learning how to play Mario Bros. on my aunts original nintendo.

Jadyn is 9!

Jadyn had a pretty good birthday even though Brennan wasn't feeling well. She opened up her gifts and cards she received and loved everything. After dinner she got to open her presents from us.....

Poor little guy

Mr. B isn't feeling so hot today. He's got some kid of pukey bug. Not exactly what he or any of us wanted to deal with today. I'm just hoping that no one else gets what ever it is he has.

Chicago....

Sears Tower

Navy Pier

The adventures in babysitting building =)

Our trip to the Shedd Aquarium

Within 5 minutes of being at the hotel we had this happen....

The next morning everyone was happy...

We loved checking out the different animals, watching the dolphin show, seeing the beluga whales and the baby. The komodo dragon was over 12 feet long! Completely impressive to look at! We even ended up buying a membership since it was only a few dollars more and then we'd have a great reason to go visit again.

There is nothing cuter

than watching your 2 1/2 year old box on the wii..... Karis totally gets into it.

We're surprising the kids

We've got plans to be in the suburbs tomorrow for a BBQ with friends. Kolin and I decided to make a weekend out of it and surprise the kids with a trip to the Shedd Aquarium. I've never been and it has been years since Kolin has visited.

We think it will be a lot of fun and something all of us will enjoy. Plus it will lead up to Jadyn's birthday next Tuesday and Taryn's the following week. I can't believe my girls are going to be 9 & 7.

More poking....

I met with the diabetes educator once again yesterday afternoon. I ended up getting a 2nd insulin pen. This one is fast acting and I have to take it 5 minutes before I eat breakfast and dinner. Then at 7am and 7pm I have to take the slow acting insulin.

My numbers and ketones were great this morning! I just hope I can get them to stay that way for a little while. She did tell me that as the pregnancy progresses I'll be adjusting the units of insulin I have to take quite frequently because I'll become more insulin resistant.

Brennan is totally interested in watching me poke my fingers and give myself shots. I swear he's going to go back to school and tell his friends and teachers that I use a LOT of needles.

6 1/2 more weeks to go.....

Jadyn

"I think I'd like to do some language arts...you know like karate."

Rattled, Frazzled, Done, Done Done!

I'm completely frazzled today. My numbers this morning were higher than they've ever been. My ketones weren't where they are supposed to be. I upped my insulin yet again yesterday. If I was cheating and eating whatever I actually wanted I would understand, but I'M NOT!

Great Weekend!

We had some friends come and visit this past weekend and we had a great visit. We played at the park for a good chunk of the day, went out to dinner and then headed to the hotel for some swim time. You should have seen the waitress' face when we walked into the restaurant with 4 adults and 8 kids between the ages of 5 weeks and almost 9. (All 8 kids did pretty well)

The two hours of swimming wore the kids and the parents out. The daddies were in the pool and the mommies were sitting with eyes peeled constanting yelling NO RUNNING! It wasn't long after we got back to our room that the lights were out (with no complaints) and not a peep came out of them until the next morning.

Snake Update!

I told Kolin last night that there was no way he could leave the house today until the snake was out of the window. This morning when I woke up Velvet was sitting in the middle of the bathroom floor staring at the window. ( You could see the darn thing moving through the blinds)

The screen was a lot harder to get off then we would have thought. After a bit of hard work Kolin was able to get the screen off, grabbed the snake with a hoe and threw it in one of yard waste containers. He then dumped way back in the backyard.

Now we're just trying to figure out how it got into the house in the first place. **SHIVERS**

Words you never want to hear!

Honey, there is a SNAKE in the bathroom! **shivers**

The snake was actually spotted by Brennan who brought it to Kolin's attention. It was slithering around along the top of the blinds near the window. We have no clue how it got INTO the house. Kolin got it to go back out and it's now stuck between the window and the window screen. The window is locked and will stay that way for quite a while I'm sure.

Since we've got a nasty storm going through Kolin will *try* and free the slithery thing in the morning.

32 weeks today!

My dr. was delivering a baby when I got there so I had to wait just a little bit to be seen. Not a big deal though. He wasn't too concerned about the GD. Just happy that I was seeing the educator and doing what needs to be done. He told me that I would be surprised at the amount of women who actually won't follow the diet and/or take insulin shots. That's really sad...especially since there is a baby to think of and not just yourself.

Everything else looks great. Baby is laying almost completely on my right side and seems to really like it there. She's no longer transverse, but he couldn't tell me if she was head down or breech.

We're down to 2 week visits now!

My newest best friend...

I had to meet with the diabetes educator again today. I couldn't get my morning fasting numbers where they needed to be no matter what I tried. Yesterday was just a crummy day and my breakfast, lunch and dinner numbers were higher than they should have been, even though I kept within the carb requirements.

I called the educator and I was told that it was time to try some insulin. Definitely not something I wanted to do, but needed to be done. I thought I was only going to have to shoot myself up once a day, but after looking at my numbers from yesterday we're going to try twice a day.

I had a choice between the vial and syringe or an insulin pen. I picked the pen! Much easier to use, almost fool proof and I can just throw it in my purse. One medication for now and we'll have to go to two at some point later in the pregnancy. The shots have to be given 12 hours apart.

I gave myself my first shot around 7. It scared the crap out of me. I just keep repeating to myself...I can do this, I can do this, I can do this.

I'm sure the pharmacy we use is loving me right about now.

It's not often

that Jadyn and Taryn want to play the same things and actually have fun. Right now they've got their polly pockets out and they are having a blast sitting infront of the bay window using their imaginations.

It must be the scrapbooker in me

that made me dig out my cellphone and take a quick pic. He wasn't crying, just whining since he was really tired. Kolin, Brennan & I went to bed about 1am and got back up about 5:30am. I'm crossing my fingers that this will be the last EEG he will EVER have to have.

Right after this pic was taken, I cuddled up next to him and he took a short nap.

Kids Day at the festival

One of the local banks has a Kids Day every year during our festival. All four got to make visors, get a temp tattoo, check out and climb into a firetruck and police car. They also had a petting zoo that we avoided.

Festival Finds

Someone (not going to mention the little boys name) was a tad upset that daddy and mommy didn't want to loose money trying to actually win Batman.

Fillin' Up!

I don't know about most of you, but where we live all the gas stations have a $75 cap on fuel. Once you reach $75 the pump automatically shuts off. Should you want to fill your vehicle up all the way you have to start the entire process all over again to actually FILL up.

Needless to say if the Expedition is under a 1/4 tank you can bet that I'll be pulling my card out twice just to fill up. I understand WHY the stations do it, but it's still a major inconvenience.

He thinks with his stomach...

Brennan: When do we get dessert?
Me: In 8 weeks!

Brennan's Hopefully LAST EEG

Brennan has his hopefully LAST EEG early tomorrow morning. It's sleep deprived, which means mommy and daddy are going to be sleep deprived as well trying to keep his booty awake so that he'll sleep tomorrow for this test. He got his hair cut rather short yesterday so that we can get the glue out easily with no fuss.

If all goes as well as expected tomorrow we just have to wait until October (2 full years seizure free) and he'll be weaned off his meds.

And another tooth

bites the dust......

Taryn is hoping the tooth fairy leaves her a lot of money so that she'll have lots of money to spend at the festival this week.

We thought

someone was helping Miss Karis, until we hid around a corner and watched her climb in herself. Needless to say she was told shortly after I took the photo that the cart was not for climbing and sitting.

My New Best Friend

This meter is going to be my new best friend for the next 9 weeks or so. Super easy to use, though my poor fingers have a bunch of hold marks in them already.
I've lost 2 lbs in the last week. I've got a breakdown of how many carbs I can eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner and 3 snacks in between. We're only on day 2 of really keeping track of everything and all my levels are where they need to be except for the fasting level I had this morning.

So far so good, we'll see how the rest of the week goes.

Happy Birthday

to the best husband & daddy!!!!!!

Hope the next 35 are just as great as the first.
